What does an otherwise incomprehensible, physical pain look like?

This project revolves around the generic term Headache. I have taken portraits of a group of people with chronic headache. Through exercises the portrayed persons found a visual output of their pain: form and colour. Each then painted a free representation of their pain directly onto their face.

I do workshops in translating bodily signals to concrete visual expressions to become better at communicating with and about the body. The project explores whether we can circumvent the words and diagnoses limitations and through art create an intuitive interpersonal understanding and thus both focuses on an issue that is otherwise invisible and taboo.
